When you walk through the doors of The New School, you’ll be greeted by a beautiful green space - Our Lobby with handpicked ornamental plants. We believe that greenery around us not only add aesthetic value to a space but also has a relaxing and calming effect on the mind.
Our Classrooms are well ventilated and spacious. Keeping children’s comfort in mind, we have installed air conditioners to combat hotter temperatures during summer. The glass doors and windows let in abundant natural sunlight and light up all rooms. Walls are painted in warm sunset tones and furniture has been built using sustainable high-quality wood. Terracotta flooring keeps our rooms cooler. They help us breathe fresher air as they are devoid of chemical coating which also makes it safe for children to walk barefoot, play, sit, crawl and whatnot!
It is not just the infrastructure, our teachers lovingly create an environment similar to one at home so that children feel safe, secure and invited. All our décor, furnishings and toys are made out of natural materials which are safe - free from BPAs, phthalates and lead. This also encourages children to prefer and respect sustainable eco-friendly products. We limit the usage of plastic in our school as much as we can.
There is a small Organic Kitchen Garden grown and maintained by children themselves under the guidance of teachers. They plough, sow, mulch, water and reap the harvest. We chose to grow native seeds and plants and children love taking the harvest home or they use it here for cooking. Healthy and mindful eating is a habit that has to be inculcated at a very young age. Only if someone understands the hardship that goes behind a task would there be value to it. Growing their own food, helps them respect and value the same.
The space that is the most loved in our school is the sensory-rich sand play. From distracting and soothing a crying child asking for his parents to serving as a social spot for children to mingle and bond with other kids. Our Sand Pit plays a significant role in making children happier. It really is heart-warming to see how creative and imaginative our tiny tots can be.
Cleanliness is something we all expect when it comes to accessing public washrooms and we take a great deal of care in maintaining our washrooms clean and hygienic and very importantly dry throughout the day. We use kid-sized water closets which are not just cute but also make children feel comfortable.
